Halloween Candy - trick or treat

I remember ringing doorbells and hoping to get sugary treats when I was a kid, but I'm a mom now, and my ideas include plant-based and energy-filled healing foods. I shudder thinking about the products with gelatin and dyes consumed by children during this sugar-filled time of year.

What is Gelatin?

I'm glad you asked.

Gelatin, made from the boiled bones, tendons, and ligaments of cattle or pigs, is a thickener and a stabilizer to keep ingredients from separating.

But do you know how many products use this disgusting substance?

When you read the labels, you'll find gelatin in cereals, candy, gum, marshmallows, ice cream, yogurt, Jello, and more (like the capsule covering supplements and medication).

Gelatin is a toxic substance shown to have negative health effects, including:

 -      Development of allergies

-       Increase in arthritis

-       Digestive problems like stomach pain and diarrhea

-       Gelatin may also cause weight gain and obesity

Gelatin is considered a protein and, of course, NOT vegan friendly. But even if you don't follow a vegan lifestyle, do you still want to ingest this boiled garbage?

What is Red Dye 40?

Dyes make food more appealing to consumers, but they also pose a threat to your health. Artificial dyes such as FD&C Red Dye 40, FD&C Red Dye 3, and FD&C Yellow No. 5 (otherwise known as tartrazine) are toxic chemicals linked to behavioral problems and cancer and allergic reactions.

Gummy bears and Doritos are notorious for containing this toxic substance. Other products that contain Red Dye #40 include candy, breakfast cereals, ice cream, energy drinks, and yogurts.

It kind of sounds like the same items from the gelatin list, doesn't it?

To avoid consuming these toxic substances, start reading the labels.

When I decided to be a Certified Juice Therapist, I learned a lot about nutritional labels and deciphering their lingo. If you can't read the ingredients on the label or have no clue what they are, then skip it. Now I look for natural and organic whole foods that are healthy for my juice babes and me.

Would you like to embrace a healthy lifestyle? Then I'd love to empower and inspire you.
