Keep your summer goals going: aim high, have fun!
What are your summer goals? Although it’s already July, there’s still a lot of summer to savor. I’ve set many fitness and nutrition goals for myself. I’ve also set a goal to enjoy summer, including treating myself on my July 10 birthday, splurging at some great dinners on vacay, and enjoying life.
One goal is to keep challenging myself physically, even though mentally I have to admit to being more stressed this past month. But I won’t let that stop me from reaching my goals. With school out, I’m scrambling to keep the kids engaged while working full-time. It always works out, but I still won’t let this de-rail my goals. Or comprise my children’s care. Just takes some extra planning. I’m sure you can all relate, and it comes down to thinking ahead.
Over the Memorial Day weekend, to kick-off my summer goals, I did the “Murph Challenge.” This is where you do an intense workout, and when you feel like quitting, you think of the courageous heroes who’ve earned us our freedom. This endurance test really challenged me as it was book-ended with one-mile runs, which are not my favorites. But I kept going, and can check that off my list.
Next goal: transitioning into more of a high-fruit raw vegan. Lifestyle. I’ve been a vegan for two years, starting on my 40th birthday. Now I want to amp it up, to just eating fresh, unprocessed, raw vegan foods. So far, this has been an enjoyable goal, as I’m loving all the melon juice, which I press myself.
Goals should be challenging, but not unreachable. What are your summer goals? Break them down to manageable bites or micro goals. If your macro goal is to get more definition in your upper arms, let your micro goal to do three sets of 12 arm exercises with 5-pound free weights every morning. Or use a barbell. Check out my Instagram for ideas or google toned arms.
And the road to reaching your goals doesn’t have to be boring and super serious. Crank up some motivating music while power lifting. I’ve shared before how I have techno bumping all the time. When I need a boost, Frankie Bones’ “Call it Techno” works every time. Find your groove and just get started.
Is one goal to feel better? Evaluate your nutrition. Decide to replace one meal a day with one fresh juice as your micro goal. With all the luscious summer fruits, choose something fresh and in season, and enjoy it juiced. All natural juices are refreshing, nutrient dense, and invigorating. Have you ever done a juice cleanse? The benefits of a juice cleanse are clear. You feel so much healthier and better when it is complete.
Tackle your goals, and have fun doing them too!
